Blue Mountain Academy (BMA) industry had a big job. Process approximately 160,000 pieces of clothing in six different colors and thirteen different sizes. Alpha Mills, Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, was “testing” BMA industry to see if they could get the job done. If they could accomplish the task on time, Alpha Mills would consider sending industry work to BMA on a regular basis.
All 160,000 articles of clothing needed repackaged. Items came two on a hanger. They needed to be split, re-hung one to a hanger, and tagged for sale using a special tag gun that wouldn’t damage the fabric, and sorted by size. Each size is then boxed; the box is labeled and placed on skids, ready to ship. And there were deadlines to meet.
Tackling such a huge task required more people and time than industry students had available, so BMA put out the word that they needed volunteers. Response was overwhelming. Many of the more than fifty volunteers have spent several days helping.
Thanks to those who have volunteered and the hard work of approximately 100 BMA students, the job is on track to be completed on time.
